Notes From 6th Street

What We’re Spinning: Revolver

Greetings from a sun filled Marv’s Music. Nice to have the sun out and see people on the street after a stretch of less than perfect weather. My belief, however, is that the sun is always out but sometimes clouds get in the way. Sort of like life. I digress…

Had a gas hosting a SoFar Sounds Des Moines show this past Friday. Good crowd and great music. Andrew Hoyt, Dustin Smith, and American Opera filled the room with music. Followed that on Saturday with a nice night of jazz courtesy of guitar/bass duo, Flat Two. Show this Saturday night from Marv faves, Ultimate Sunshine. Come down and have a good time. BYOB and show starts at 7.

For those that follow me on social media, you may have seen my post for East Village Promenade. A great way to experience the East Village. On Friday night, 11/16, Lizzy Poppyseed will be doing a solo show starting at 8. I should have copies of her new release for sale on CD. If you haven’t had a chance to catch her in a solo setting it is well worth your time. Amazing voice and an even better soul. Follow that on Saturday, 11/17, with local singer-songwriter, B. John Burns at 7 p.m. Great way to kick off the holiday season. See the Events page for a full list of shows coming up.

New batch of releases this week from Jason Isbell, Elvis Costello, John Hiatt, Minus The Bear, Greta Van Fleet, and REM. As well, due to popular demand, Billy Joel and Sufjan Stevens now have their own sections here at the store. I have always wanted to put those two together in a sentence!!!

Special shout out this week to my niece Chelsea. She has worked down here at the store with and for me on occasion. Having a birthday this week. My godchild. When I rocked her as a baby I would hum a lullaby version of “Yellow Submarine”. She has turned into one of the biggest Beatles fans. Happy birthday!!!

Make sure you stop in and sign up for tickets and an album for The Mothers show coming up at Vaudeville Mews on 10/25. Stay tuned for a ticket giveaway for Magpie Salutes coming up in January at Wooly’s.

With the holidays around the corner, I may be expanding my hours to include Sunday. Most likely 12-4. Stay tuned here and to social media for updates. Remember I have gift cards available in any amount and can special order albums.

Take Care,
